Anthony Robles Book UNSTOPPABLE
;
Writing book reviews was something I never really enjoyed doing when I was in school. I also believe that was the last time I wrote a book review. Unstoppable is the first book in so many years to make me break that streak. It was a quick read, finished in one weekend, but its impact has stuck with me.
;
This may seem like a simple story of an underdog making it big, but it’s so much more. Wrestling is known as the toughest, most grueling sport on the planet. Unstoppable is the tale of a man with one leg overcoming all obstacles to conquer the sport and become the best college wrestler in the country.
;
The title, Unstoppable, is perfect for this autobiography of a 24 year old man who was a three time NCAA D-1 All-American and NCAA National Champion. Anthony didn’t start wrestling as a kid; like me, he started his freshman year of high school. Unlike me, however, Anthony did this with one leg.
;
This is an inspiring journey of Anthony’s HS through college wrestling career. The book gives a little family background and sets the stage for how his wrestling career began. The book also explores what it takes to do what he did, which is nothing short of amazing. As I read deeper, I kept thinking how impressive his wrestling career was: in HS he won two state titles and went undefeated his junior and senior year and he won the high school nationals. This would make a great story even if Anthony had been born with all of his limbs.
;
The book talks about all of Anthony’s struggles and how he overcame those road blocks. I was surprised, but happy that he shared intimate details about his family life that really let the reader in on what was happening behind the scenes; there is always so much more to the story. Champions are human they have the same problems that you and I have. Unstoppable tells the story of how you can overcome anything with the right formula.
;
So many of the people Anthony discusses in the book are so relatable that you can’t help but want to spend time with them. For example, I can attest to how amazing his mother, Judy, is. I got to spend time with Anthony and Judy watching UFC 152. His coaches and mentors are inspiring: some that I have known longer than he has, and others whom I would love to meet after reading about them.
;
The simple yet striking message from Unstoppable is that you can achieve anything you set you mind to. No matter how big a goal, no matter how many setbacks or obstacles; you can set a goal, believe, follow through, and keep getting back up if you learn from your mistakes and surround yourself with the right people. Commitment, dedication, perseverance, and faith are things we all know work. These principles are time-tested and proven.
;
Even though Unstoppable is based on a simple formula, it is not always a simple one to follow. Every year there is only one national champion per weight class. There were so many times where Anthony could have quit and would have been fine; he had already accomplished a lot for a guy with one leg. Anthony never saw himself as different and kept going. He beat every Division I wrestler in the country to capture the NCAA title of national champion, and although this marks the end of the book, it’s certainly not the last chapter for Anthony Robles.
I was inspired and intrigued by this story and will continue to follow Anthony and his career. He is a role model and an inspiration to all of us.
