MIXED MARTIAL ARTS classes

Mixed Martial Arts is the fastest growing sport in the world. This involves a mixture of various martial arts such as Kickboxing, Boxing, Judo, Karate, Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu, Sambo and Tae Kwan Do.

This MMA classes in Portland are offered at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The class is typically 1 hour long and involves pad work using focus mitts, Thai pads, kick shields and heavy bags. This class is designed to teach students striking combos through our numbering system. Students will often work with partners to practice submission holds and work at a drill pace to sharpen their take down, submission and striking skills.

KIDS MMA PROGRAM

The Team Quest kids MMA program is for kids ages 5 -11years old and allows students to learn skills in MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Boxing, Wrestling, Submission Wrestling, Karate & Tae-Kwan do. If your child is looking for a change from regular sports, then this is it. The Team Quest kids MMA in Portland program empowers kids through Martial Arts to become focused, self disciplined and respectful to others.

TEEN MMA program

The teen MMA program at Team Quest MMA in Portland is specifically designed for teens ages 12-16 years old. This class teaches students skills in Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Wrestling, Submission Wrestling, Clinch fighting, Dirty Boxing as well as incorporating strength and conditioning.

This hour long class is offered three days a week, Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 5pm.

WHAT IS MIXED MARTIAL ARTS?

Mixed Martial Arts allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, from a variety of other combat sports and martial arts. MMA originally was promoted as a competition with the intention of finding the most effective martial arts for real-life combat situations.

The original MMA competitors were matched against one another with very few rules. Fighters incorporated techniques from many martial arts styles while MMA event promoters formed additional rules aimed at increasing safety for competitors and to promote the mainstream acceptance of the sport.

SUBMISSION WRESTLING

Submission wrestling (also known as submission fighting or simply as No-Gi) or Combat wrestling in Japan, is a formula of competition and a general term describing the aspect of martial arts and combat sports that focus on clinch and ground fighting with the aim of obtaining a submission using submission holds.

Students will often work with partners to practice submission holds and work at a drill pace to sharpen their take downs & submission skills.

Kickboxing classes at Team Quest MMA in Portland are a mixture of several techniques employed in the rest of the forms of martial arts. Referred to as the “science of 8 limbs” simply because almost all parts of the body are employed during the fight. The forehead, the fists, elbows, knees, and feet are often used as the weapons. It has been around for more than 2000 years and is basically regarded as the oldest variant of martial arts.

WHAT IS MUAY THAI KICKBOXING?

Muay Thai is the kickboxing style most commonly used in professional Mixed Martial Arts (UFC) style competitions. It is known as the “Art of 8 Limbs” because it allows use of punches, kicks, elbows, and knees—making it the most versatile and effective striking system on the planet. Even better, it is a great workout and not boring—this motivates people who normally hate going to the gym and gets them working out!

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes Portland, Oregon

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes taking an opponent to the ground and utilizing ground fighting techniques and submission holds involving joint-locks and choke holds also found in numerous other arts with or without ground fighting emphasis. The premise is that most of the advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes, both of which are somewhat negated when grappling on the ground.

WHAT IS BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a complete fighting system that teaches you how to control and subdue your opponent. You learn not only how to immobilize an opponent effectively so they can’t attack you, but also how to defeat them humanely without having to seriously hurt them. It’s the only proven style where a smaller person can immobilize and defeat a stronger, larger attacker.

It is so effective in fact, it is considered to be required training for anyone who chooses to compete in the world renowned Ultimate Fighting Championships. Every single UFC Champion trains in Jiu-Jitsu or grappling. Bottom line, what you are going to learn in our Jiu-Jitsu classes works because its what professional fighters rely on when they step into the cage.

FITQUEST

FITQUEST combines weightlifting, sprinting, and gymnastics with MMA training movements such as heavy bag training, ground & pound dummy training. FITQUEST says that proficiency is required in each of ten fitness domains: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. It defines fitness as increased work capacity across all these domains and says its program achieves this by provoking neurologic and hormonal adaptations across all metabolic pathways.

COMBAT FITNESS CLASS

The Combat Fitness classes at Team Quest MMA in Portland are a cardio blitz designed to give people of all fitness levels a great workout. This class utilizes components of kickboxing, boxing & MMA skills and dynamic conditioning drills using combat principles. This class is perfect for beginners or those looking to shake out the ring rust and get back into fighting shape.
